Firefighters Prevent Petrol Tanker Explosion in Kwara

On Saturday, firefighters from the Kwara State Fire Service prevented a major disaster in Ilorin, Kwara State, when they responded to a petrol tanker carrying 45,000 liters of premium motor spirit that developed a mechanical fault around 9:40 AM at Madi Junction along the Oko Olowo Expressway. The situation escalated when the tanker detached from the truck, causing a significant fuel leak.

The driver attempted to repair the fault, which posed a serious fire hazard due to the highly flammable nature of the petroleum product. Firefighters immediately secured the area and remained on standby throughout the operation, ensuring strict compliance with safety measures.

They provided continuous fire protection while carefully transferring the fuel from the affected tanker, successfully preventing any ignition or escalation of the incident. Alabi Muham, the director of the Kwara State Fire Service, commended the firefighters for their prompt response and urged tanker operators to maintain their vehicles properly and report any petroleum-related emergencies immediately.
