Military Fitness Emphasized at Archery Competition in Abuja

Chief of Defence Staff Gen Olufemi Oluyed highlighted the critical role of physical and mental fitness among military personnel for national security and effective service delivery. He spoke at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Chief of Defence Staff Inter-Service Archery Competition in Abuja, where Rear Admiral Semiu Adepegba represented the Director of Defence Administration.

Oluyed noted that fitness is essential for military personnel to cope with the demands of their roles. The competition aimed to instill core military values, precision, innovation, and camaraderie among service members.

He mentioned that the event also serves as a selection platform for athletes representing Nigeria in upcoming local and international archery championships. The Nigerian Army emerged as the overall winner, securing four gold, four silver, and three bronze medals, followed by the Nigerian Navy with three gold, five silver, and two bronze medals, while the Nigerian Air Force finished third.
