Gunmen Attack Mangu Market, Killing Three and Injuring Many

On September 19, 2026, armed men attacked a crowded vegetable market in Mangu town, Mangu Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including two women and a young man. The shooting began around 8:30 p.m. as traders and shoppers were concluding their activities for the day.

Gunmen fired multiple shots at a departing vehicle, which led to chaos as buyers, sellers, and passers-by fled in all directions, causing a stampede that resulted in additional injuries. Bulus Dabit, president of the Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA), confirmed the attack and stated that the identities of the victims had not yet been established.

Injured individuals were referred to the University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for treatment. John Haruna, another source, corroborated the incident, describing the disorder caused by the sudden gunfire.

Earlier that day, the MDA had raised concerns about ongoing violence in Mangu, reporting over 750 Mwaghavul people killed in attacks since 2023 and calling for an investigation into the violence.
