Yobe Police Denies Officer Died Rescuing Baby from Flood

The Yobe State Police Command has refuted claims circulating on social media that officer Isah Abubakar died while rescuing a baby from floodwaters in Damaturu. The police stated that Abubakar drowned on August 3, 2026, after falling into a ditch while riding his bicycle to work following heavy rainfall.

The viral claim originated from an Instagram post by a user named Patriotic Soja, which incorrectly identified the officer as Albani. Police Public Relations Officer Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed that Abubakar was warned against passing through the water but proceeded anyway, leading to his tragic accident.

An internal police signal corroborated that Abubakar, who was attached to the Desert Intervention Squad, Haha Maza, drowned around 6:30 am along the Malumatari–Gujba Road while returning from duty. The command urged the public to disregard the false narrative and verify information through official channels.
