Fuel Price Hike Strains Keke Riders in Taraba State

The recent increase in petroleum pump prices has severely affected tricycle (keke) riders in Taraba State, with petrol prices now ranging from N1,300 to N1,400 per liter. This surge in fuel costs has prompted a rise in transport fares by N200 to N300, making it difficult for riders to sustain their operations.

Muhammad Maikudi, a leader of the Keke Napep Association, has appealed to both riders and passengers to remain calm and understanding during this challenging economic period. He emphasized the importance of avoiding confrontations over fare negotiations, urging mutual respect and peaceful discussions to resolve disputes.

Emeka Uch, another tricycle operator, warned that without urgent measures to stabilize fuel prices, the situation could lead to further economic strain, especially with the upcoming Sallah and Easter celebrations. The association calls for cooperation among the public to prevent misunderstandings and conflicts during this time of heightened economic pressure.
