Commuters in Jos Face 50% Hike in Transport Fares

Commuters in Jos, Plateau State, are lamenting a sudden 50% increase in transport fares, which they describe as an additional burden amid ongoing economic hardships. A vox pop conducted revealed that Ibrahim Usman, a commuter, noted that the fare for commercial tricycles, commonly known as "keke napep," has risen from N200 to N300 for trips to the city center.

Ali Kazaur, another commuter, confirmed that he now pays N300 instead of the previous N200. Mr. Nwachukwu Ok highlighted that fares from the Jenta Apata terminus have also increased to N300 from N200.

Malam Yahaya Sani, a tricycle operator, attributed the fare hike to the rising cost of petrol, which he noted had increased from N1,040 to around N1,100 per liter within two days. He stated that the fare adjustment was necessary to cover operational costs and avoid disputes with passengers.
