INEC Reveals Key States for 2027 Elections Voter Count

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has identified Lagos, Kano, and Kaduna as the three states with the highest number of registered voters, crucial for the upcoming 2027 general elections. INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan announced this at a stakeholders meeting and press conference, revealing that Lagos has 7,488,633 registered voters, Kano has 6,570,276, and Kaduna has 4,662,640.
The total number of registered voters in Nigeria now stands at 103,428,715, following the completion of a three-phase Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and a biometric clean-up, which added 10,772,421 new registrations. The gender split shows 53,528,218 male voters (51.75%) and 49,900,497 female voters (48.25%).
Voters aged 35 to 49 represent the largest age group at 41.83%. The voters' register will be available for public scrutiny from October 9 to 15, 2026, allowing Nigerians to raise objections or claims before the elections.
The nationwide collection of newly issued Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will also commence on October 9, 2026.
