Lagos BRT Fares Increase by 13% Effective March 2026

The Lagos State Government has approved a 13% increase in fares for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, which will take effect on March 2, 2026. This decision was announced by Kolawole Ojelabi, the head of corporate communications at the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).

The fare adjustment is a response to rising operational costs influenced by economic pressures and is part of a reform initiative to ensure the sustainability of transport operations across the state. The adjustment aligns with the previously established annual fare review mechanism in light of ongoing inflationary trends, which have significantly strained operational costs.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Nigeria's headline inflation rate was recorded at 15.15% in December 2025, slightly moderating to around 15.1% in January 2026. The new fare structure includes various routes with specific fare adjustments, such as Igando to Obalende at 1,140 Naira and Oshodi to Lekki at 570 Naira, among others.
