Enugu Transport Fares Increase by 10% Amid Fuel Hike

Transport fares in Enugu State have risen by 10% as a direct result of increasing fuel prices across the country. This fare hike has significantly impacted residents, particularly school pupils, traders, and artisans, who now have to trek to their destinations due to the unexpected increase in transport costs.

For instance, the fare from Gariki area to the new market rose from N500 to N600, while the fare from Meniru bus stop to Ogbet market increased from N500 to N600. Additionally, the fare to Amechi Junction from the Institute of Management Technology rose from N400 to N500.

Tricycle operators in the Abakpa suburb also increased their fares by N100. Residents expressed surprise and frustration over the fare increases, with Franca Onyemechi, a trader at Kenyatta Market, stating she was unaware of the rising fuel prices and transport fares.

Chibuik Ez, a student at the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus, lamented the impact of the fare hike on students commuting from outside the campus.
