SDP Faction Disowns Lawsuit Against INEC Timetable

The faction of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) led by Shehu Gabam has publicly distanced itself from a lawsuit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding its electoral timetable. The party's leadership issued a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, asserting that the legal action was unauthorized and not approved by the party's recognized bodies.

The lawsuit was reportedly initiated by a faction led by former national secretary Dr. Olu Agunloye, which Gabam's faction claims lacks the authority to act on behalf of the party.

The SDP emphasized that the case does not represent its official position and that no legal action had been authorized through the proper internal processes. The statement also referenced a letter from senior advocate Shaibu Enejo Aruwa concerning communications exchanged with Agunloy regarding the case.

This development comes as political activities intensify in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
