69 Ogun Students Discharged After Gas Leak Incident

On Wednesday, 69 students from schools in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, were discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment for symptoms related to a gas leak. Seven students remained hospitalized but showed improvement.

Ogun State's Commissioner for Health, Tomi Coker, provided updates on the situation, confirming that this incident marks the third gas leak in the area within two months, raising concerns among residents and affecting academic activities. Preliminary investigations indicated that a gas pipeline located five kilometers from the affected schools might be the source of the leak, potentially linked to an underground geological fault line.

The affected schools include St. Anthony Grammar School, Ladi Apostolic Secondary School, and Anglican Girl Grammar School.

Civil rights activist John Eko urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to ensure a thorough investigation into the recurring incidents, emphasizing the need for a permanent solution to protect residents' health.
