Shaibu Praises Team Nigeria's Success at Glasgow 2026

Comrade Philip Shaibu, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), commended Team Nigeria for their exceptional performance at the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland. Team Nigeria finished seventh overall and was recognized as Africa’s highest-ranked team.

Shaibu attributed this success to meticulous planning, early preparation, enhanced welfare packages, and effective support systems for the athletes. He acknowledged the National Sports Commission's role in coordinating Nigeria's participation, emphasizing that the seamless organization contributed to the athletes' confidence.

Shaibu also credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support, which he said boosted the morale of athletes and officials. He urged for increased investment in sports at all levels, advocating for resources to be directed towards grassroots talent development, modern training facilities, and sustainable athlete welfare programs.

Shaibu expressed confidence that with continued investment and collaboration among stakeholders, Nigeria could enhance its status in global sports.
