Gombe State Assembly Project Collapse Kills Worker

On Friday, a construction site incident at the new Gombe State House of Assembly complex led to the collapse of a cantilever entrance canopy, resulting in the death of one worker and injuries to seven others. Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya confirmed that eight workers were involved in the incident, with seven sustaining injuries.

The injured workers were promptly evacuated for medical treatment, with five receiving care at the Gombe State Specialist Hospital and two at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe. In response to the tragedy, Governor Yahaya expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and directed that the injured workers receive comprehensive medical care at the government's expense.

The governor instructed the Ministry of Works and Transport, along with relevant regulatory agencies, to establish safety protocols immediately. The contractor responsible for the project has been directed to submit a formal incident report within 24 hours, following a preliminary investigation.

The government is committed to enforcing safety and quality engineering standards in public infrastructure projects.
