Gombe Pensioners Demand Review of Low Monthly Payments

Pensioners in Gombe State have expressed their dissatisfaction with the low monthly pension payments they receive, urging the state government to review these amounts. Some retirees report receiving as little as N9,000 monthly, with one individual stating he receives only N8,000 after 16 years of service on Grade Level 9.

The retired journalist highlighted that others receive even lower amounts, such as N3,000 or N2,000, making it challenging for them to cope with rising costs of food, healthcare, and transportation. Another pensioner, who served for 35 years, described the financial pressure as harrowing, stating that they face competing obligations like school fees and healthcare expenses.

He emphasized that pensioners experience the same economic realities as active workers and called for improvements in pension payments to alleviate their struggles. The pensioners collectively seek consideration during salary reviews for active workers, as they too are affected by the changing economic circumstances.
