Gombe Police Arrest Eight for Armed Robbery, Fraud

The Gombe State Police Command has apprehended eight individuals suspected of being part of a criminal syndicate involved in armed robbery and internet fraud. The arrests were made following investigations into robbery incidents reported on June 7, 2026, in Wuro Birji, Akko Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the police public relations officer, Buhari Abdullahi, the suspects invaded homes, stole mobile phones, and subsequently accessed the victims' bank accounts. The investigation revealed that the suspects fraudulently withdrew a total of N500,000 from the victims' accounts, including N296,790 from a GTBank account and a quick loan of N205,205.

Credible intelligence and meticulous technical analysis of fraudulent transactions led to the successful tracing of the money to a Moniepoint account, resulting in the arrest of the first suspect, Mustapha Kabiru, a 19-year-old computer science student at the Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo. Further investigations revealed the syndicate was responsible for 13 similar incidents in the area, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend remaining members.
