SDP Reclaims National Secretariat After INEC Recognition

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially reclaimed its national secretariat in Abuja after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognized Prof. Sadiq Gomb as the legitimate national chairman.

This recognition, dated June 17, 2023, follows a series of internal disputes and legal battles regarding the party's leadership structure. Gomb's assumption of office marks the culmination of nearly a year of internal reforms and disciplinary proceedings.

The party faced significant challenges, including a court case regarding the legitimacy of its leadership, which was ultimately resolved in favor of Gomb by the Supreme Court on December 19, 2025. Gomb emphasized the importance of adhering to due process throughout the disciplinary measures taken against members.

He also extended an olive branch to aggrieved members, expressing a commitment to reconciliation and unity within the party as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
