Kano Governor Launches First Sickle Cell Centre in North

On [date not specified], Kano Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf commissioned the Abba Care Sickle Cell Centre at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, the first specialized facility for sickle cell disease in Northern Nigeria. He also inaugurated the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) headquarters, aimed at improving disease surveillance and healthcare delivery.

During the ceremony, Yusuf highlighted the distribution of 3,000 customized digital blood pressure monitors to senior public servants and political appointees, alongside maternal and neonatal health commodities, accident and emergency supplies, and 4,855 bedsheets for secondary healthcare facilities. He emphasized the importance of these initiatives in improving access to quality healthcare, particularly for vulnerable populations.

The governor noted that sickle cell disease significantly impacts families in Kano, and the new center will provide comprehensive healthcare services, including diagnosis, treatment, and patient education. Yusuf reaffirmed his administration's commitment to preventive healthcare and enhancing medical care access across the state.
