Kano Governor Yusuf Appoints 8,588 New Teachers

On [date not specified], Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf presented appointment letters to 8,588 teachers at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano. This initiative aims to strengthen the education sector and address the shortage of teaching personnel in public schools.

The newly recruited teachers include 4,900 primary and secondary school teachers and 3,688 teachers under the ABBA Gida-Gida Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme. Governor Yusuf described this recruitment as a significant milestone in his administration’s education reform agenda, highlighting that education is crucial for sustainable development.

He allocated 31% of the 2026 state budget to education, one of the highest allocations in Nigeria, and noted that Kano emerged as the best-performing state in this year’s NECO examinations. He urged the new teachers to perform their duties with professionalism and integrity.

Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, praised the governor for prioritizing education and urged the teachers to serve with dedication.
