Adebutu Accuses Governors of Diverting LG Funds

Oladipupo Adebutu, the governorship candidate for Ogun State from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), alleged that governors across Nigeria are misappropriating local government allocations. Speaking during a meeting with the Egba Traditional Council in Abeokuta, he called for full financial autonomy for local councils, promising that his administration would prioritize their independence if elected in 2027.

Adebutu criticized the current state of local governments, stating that they are not in a position to deliver development effectively due to a lack of financial autonomy. He highlighted that local councils should have direct access to statutory allocations for infrastructure development without relying on borrowing.

Abayomi Tella, the Ogun State PDP chairman, supported Adebutu's stance, lamenting the collapse of the local government system due to inadequate financial independence. Adebutu's running mate, Lateefat Sowunmi, and other party members also urged traditional rulers to support their vision for the development of Egbaland.
