Igbo Mandate Movement Defends Deputy Speaker Kalu

The Igbo Mandate Movement has condemned what they describe as sustained political attacks on Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon.

Benjamin Kalu, asserting that the recent petition against him is politically motivated. The group, represented by its national coordinator, Napoleon, highlighted Kalu's qualifications, including his LL.M. and Ph.D. from the University of Calabar and his service in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 2010.

They refuted allegations of Kalu dodging NYSC service and forgery of his NYSC certificate, emphasizing that he fulfilled his obligations while attending law school. The group criticized the legal profession's disciplinary committee for considering the petition and called for urgent reforms to address the long wait faced by law graduates seeking admission to law school.

They argued that Kalu's experiences reflect broader systemic failures within the legal education framework in Nigeria and urged the LPDC and NYSC to treat the petition with contempt.
