Gunmen Attack TCN Substation in Kwara, Hold Workers Hostage

On Thursday morning, gunmen stormed the Offa 132kV Transmission Substation in Kwara State, Nigeria, holding workers at gunpoint. The attackers took control of the control room, compelling the operators to shut down critical feeder supplies to the electricity station.

Ndidi Mbah, the spokesperson for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), confirmed that the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday and led to a total shutdown of the Offa-Ojoku 33kV feeder. The attackers also tampered with key control equipment during the operation.

Following the incident, TCN declared a force majeure on Saturday, indicating the severity of the situation. Mbah stated that power supply was gradually restored shortly after the incident, with the 40MVA transformer and the Offa 33kV feeder being restored.

TCN expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the attack and reaffirmed its commitment to efficient electricity transmission nationwide.
