FG Urges Nigerian Youth to Acquire Skills for Self-Reliance

On Thursday, Minister of Youth Development Ayodel Olawand encouraged Nigerian youths to embrace skill acquisition for self-reliance. This statement was made during a visit by Joshua Babatunde Aiyenuro, who set a Guinness World Record for the longest professional hairdressing marathon in Nasarawa State on January 29, 2026, lasting 72 hours.

Olawand emphasized the importance of education and practical skills in empowering the youth economically. He highlighted that skill acquisition is essential for personal development and urged young people to focus on their talents and aspirations.

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Olakunle Nafiu, praised Aiyenuro's achievement as an inspiration for youth skill development. Aiyenuro expressed gratitude for the support and announced plans to establish 1,000 barber seats nationwide to expand vocational skills and reduce unemployment, crime, and drug abuse.

Tina Orjir, President of the National Association of Hair and Beauty Practitioners, called for government support for the beauty industry to help take youth off the streets.
