Lieutenant Isaac Buri Killed in Oyo Rescue Operation

Lieutenant Isaac Buri, a 28-year-old officer of the Nigerian Army's 23rd Armour Brigade, was killed on July 10, 2026, during a rescue operation in Oyo State. The operation aimed to free a teacher and pupils abducted from three schools in the Oriir Local Government Area.

His father, a retired Master Warrant Officer, expressed devastation over the loss, describing his son as the family's hope and a promising officer whose life was cut short. The military has not provided an official briefing regarding the circumstances of the incident.

However, four retired senior military officers were commended for ensuring Buri's body was returned to Yola for burial. The Nigerian Army acknowledged the operation's careful planning to avoid collateral damage while ensuring the safety of the abducted individuals.

Governor Seyi Makinde expressed gratitude for the safe return of the victims and emphasized the importance of supporting the families affected by the tragedy.
