Heavy Security at INEC Amid ADC Leadership Crisis

On Thursday, heavy security was established at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja in response to a leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This security presence followed INEC's decision to delist the party's national working committee from its official portal.

The decision sparked outrage among ADC supporters, particularly members of the Obidi Movement, who planned to protest at INEC's headquarters. Reports indicated that approximately 2,000 protesters were expected to gather following INEC's announcement regarding the ADC leadership dispute.

INEC officially recognized David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as the national chairman and national secretary of the ADC, respectively, while not recognizing Nafiu Bala Gomb, who sought a court declaration for the national chairmanship. INEC's decision will remain effective until a final determination is made by the Federal High Court regarding the ongoing legal dispute.
