Military Secures INEC Headquarters Amid ADC Protest Tensions

On Thursday, military personnel and police were deployed around the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja in response to heightened tensions surrounding a planned protest by members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The protest aims to challenge recent decisions made by INEC regarding the party's leadership crisis, which has seen the removal of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from INEC's official portal.

This action follows a court order aimed at maintaining the status quo pending the outcome of a legal battle involving multiple factions within the ADC. The faction aligned with David Mark has expressed anger over INEC's involvement in internal party affairs, leading to increased security measures around the headquarters to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order.

INEC has confirmed it received several letters from opposing factions warning against recognition of the faction led by Nafiu Bala Gomb, emphasizing compliance with court rulings.
