HEDA Commends EFCC for Pursuing High-Profile Corruption Cases

The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) praised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its efforts in pursuing high-profile corruption cases, particularly the ongoing trial of former Minister of Labour and Employment Dr. Chris Ngige concerning alleged procurement irregularities involving the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF). In a statement issued on Sunday, HEDA's chairman, Olanrewaju Suraju, highlighted the significance of the EFCC's actions as a demonstration of its resolve to ensure accountability, regardless of the status of the accused.

The organization noted that documentary evidence, including correspondence and procurement records, is being presented in court. HEDA also pointed out that Ngige's alleged involvement in mismanagement of public resources warrants thorough judicial scrutiny.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in public institutions and urged the judiciary to uphold its independence to ensure justice is administered strictly according to the law.
