Tinubu Announces Rescue of 308 Abducted Nigerians

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu confirmed the successful rescue of 308 Nigerian citizens who had been abducted in various attacks in Niger and Kwara states. Among those rescued, 163 individuals were taken from Woro community in Kaiama local government area of Kwara state approximately six months ago, while 145 were from Niger state.

The rescue operation was conducted in the Kainji Lake National Park Forest in New Bussa, Niger state, through a coordinated, intelligence-driven effort by the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC), involving personnel from the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force. This operation marked the largest simultaneous rescue effort by the joint security team.

Following their rescue, the victims are receiving medical care at Wawa Cantonment and will be handed over to their respective state governments for further care and family reunification. President Tinubu emphasized the importance of strengthening national security infrastructure to prevent future kidnappings and directed security agencies to enhance early warning systems and community intelligence gathering.
