Adeleke Triumphs in Osun Governorship Election

Ademola Adeleke emerged victorious in the Osun State governorship elections held on Saturday, defeating Bola Oyebamiji of the APC by a margin of 66,252 votes, with a total of 511,067 votes to Oyebamiji's 444,815. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) placed third with 17,180 votes.

Prior to the election, Adeleke faced considerable political pressure, including attempts by Gboyega Oyetola, the powerful minister in charge of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and his political mentor, President Bola Tinubu, to undermine his position. Despite declaring his respect for Tinubu and expressing a desire to join the APC, Adeleke was rejected.

His victory is notable given the complex political dynamics in Osun State, characterized by strong political figures and a history of competitive elections. Adeleke's win, capturing 50.8% of the votes in a race with 13 candidates, surprised many, including Adeleke himself, as reflected in a viral video of his reaction to the results.
