Obasanjo Accuses Atiku of Funding Impeachment Plot

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo alleged that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar provided N5 million to the late Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, to initiate impeachment proceedings against him during his first term in office. Obasanjo made this claim while addressing comments from former Ogun State governor, Olusegun Osoba, regarding the political landscape leading to the 2003 general elections.

He stated that Na’Abba's impeachment efforts began after a meeting with Atiku, who allegedly convinced Na’Abba that Obasanjo should serve only one term as President. Obasanjo further claimed that Atiku's financial support for the impeachment was documented and reported to him by his Chief of Staff, described as a professional intelligence officer.

Despite the impeachment threat, Obasanjo expressed confidence that there was no constitutional basis for his removal from office.
