Gunmen Attack Osun Governor Adeleke's Convoy in Osogbo

On Wednesday, shortly after Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following his victory in the August 15, 2026 governorship election, his convoy was attacked by gunmen in Osogbo. The attack occurred as Adeleke was leaving the Ataoja of Osogbo's palace, where he had paid a courtesy visit to express appreciation to the traditional ruler, Oba Olanipekun.

Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, confirmed that hoodlums opened fire on the convoy, causing panic among residents. Security personnel assigned to the governor responded effectively, repelling the assailants without any reported casualties.

Adeleke won the election with 511,067 votes, defeating Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 444,815 votes. The attack raised security concerns in the state, especially following recent political tensions.

Investigations are underway to determine the attackers' identities and motives.
