Umo Eno Reveals N10m Monthly Earnings from Akara Business

Umo Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, revealed that he previously earned not less than N10 million monthly from his akara and bread business, which he branded as “Akara Burger,” before transitioning into politics. He shared this information during the state’s monthly covenant prayer service on a Tuesday, which gained traction on social media the following day.

Eno explained that he began by selling akara and bread, later expanding to include a coffee shop that catered to customers, particularly Exxon Mobil workers, in the mornings. His entrepreneurial journey provided him with valuable lessons about starting small and building a business.

This revelation comes in the wake of comments made by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, who encouraged Nigerians to consider small businesses like akara for economic improvement. Her remarks faced criticism for being disconnected from the current economic challenges.

In response, she clarified that the empowerment initiative also supports various small traders, including those selling tomatoes and roasted plantains.
