UNIJOS Graduate Tortured to Death Over Missing iPhone

Ibrahim Pilasar Mbaya, known as Ibee, a Political Science graduate from the University of Jos, was allegedly tortured to death over accusations of stealing an iPhone 12. The prime suspect, Emmanuel Newyear, 30, confessed to striking Mbaya three times with a wooden plank during a police interrogation conducted by the Plateau State Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alobo.
Newyear claimed he believed Mbaya was withholding information about the phone's location. Rinji Daniel Fwanji, the phone's owner, stated that Mbaya had spent the night at his residence before both he and the phone went missing.
Daniel had attempted to contact Mbaya, who eventually agreed to return. Other suspects, including Joshua Tell, admitted to restraining Mbaya during the assault, while Nensemka Fwanji witnessed the incident and later took Mbaya to the hospital.
The missing phone has not been recovered, and the incident has sparked national outrage.
