Kaduna State's Tax Revenue Hits ₦220bn Through Engagement

The Kaduna State Government reported generating about ₦220bn in tax revenue between 2023 and 2025, as revealed by Finance Commissioner Mohammed Ibrahim Tanko during the North-West Zonal Stakeholders’ Engagement Meeting on “Promoting Fairness in Tax and Revenue Administration.” This revenue was achieved without resorting to "brutal enforcement" against taxpayers, focusing instead on sustained engagement with businesses and stakeholders to encourage voluntary compliance. Tanko noted that the North-West geopolitical zone generated around ₦916bn in total tax revenue during the same period, with Kaduna contributing significantly.

He advocated for the establishment of a zonal office for the Office of the Tax Ombud in Kaduna to enhance dialogue and improve tax administration. Additionally, Tanko highlighted a shift in how the state utilized internally generated revenue, prioritizing infrastructure and development projects to ensure taxpayers see tangible benefits from their contributions.
