Peter Obi Leaves ADC for NDC Amid Internal Conflicts

Peter Obi joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in December 2025, aiming to strengthen the opposition against the ruling establishment. However, the ADC quickly devolved into chaos due to leadership disputes and multiple court litigations.

Sources indicated that friction with Atiku Abubakar's camp hindered the party's ability to unify and present a strong front. Atiku's refusal to yield the top ticket, despite his previous electoral failures, contributed to the ADC's decline.

Obi's vision for a cohesive opposition was thwarted by the internal power struggles, leading to his decision to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Seriake Dickson, of the NDC, emphasized that the party is free from factional disputes and litigation, contrasting it with the ADC's turmoil.

Obi's move to the NDC is seen as a necessary step to escape the dysfunction within the ADC and to build a more effective political platform.
