Troops Prevent Mass Abduction at FGGC Monguno, Borno

On July 19, 2026, troops operating in conjunction with the Nigerian Police successfully foiled an attempt by ISWAP terrorists to abduct students at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) in Monguno, Borno State. The incident occurred around 1:30 AM.

Captain Moham Goni, acting as the military information officer, reported that the terrorists gained access to the school with the help of collaborators. Security personnel engaged the attackers, who were overwhelmed by superior firepower.

The Sector 3 Quick Reaction Force provided immediate reinforcements, leading to the confrontation. The situation was quickly contained, resulting in the terrorists abandoning their mission.

During the firefight, some school infrastructure sustained damage, but troops worked alongside police personnel to rescue 46 students, who were evacuated to Kinnasara Barrack Monguno for immediate medical attention. All rescued students were confirmed stable, with no abductions reported, although there were fatalities due to sporadic gunfire.

The military extended condolences to the families of the deceased and assured that measures would be taken to safeguard public institutions.
