Troops Prevent Mass Abduction at FGGC Monguno, Borno

On July 19, 2026, troops operating under the Joint Task Force North East, in collaboration with the Nigerian Police, successfully foiled a mass abduction attempt by ISWAP terrorists at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) in Monguno, Borno State. The terrorists reportedly gained access to the facility, prompting an immediate alert to security personnel.

Troops engaged the terrorists, who were overwhelmed by superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their mission. During the encounter, the school infrastructure sustained damage, but troops managed to rescue and evacuate 46 students to Kinnasara Barrack Monguno for medical assessment.

Fortunately, no students were abducted, although one student was fatally struck by sporadic gunfire during the firefight. The military expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and reassured the public of ongoing measures to safeguard lives and protect critical public institutions across the northeast.
