31 Civilians Rescued in Borno Military Operation

On July 31, 2023, troops from the 135 Special Forces Battalion, under the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, successfully rescued 31 civilians who were being abducted by terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Biu Local Government Area. Acting Military Information Officer Captain Mohammed Goni reported that the operation was initiated based on real-time intelligence indicating that terrorists had intercepted four civilian vehicles.

A Quick Response Force was deployed, which pursued the fleeing insurgents towards the Mangari–Dora area and engaged them in a firefight. The military pressure compelled the terrorists to abandon the abducted civilians, four vehicles, and several motorcycles before retreating into nearby bushland.

Following the operation, troops dominated the area and conducted follow-up operations to prevent the insurgents from regrouping. The rescued civilians and recovered vehicles were safely escorted to Buratai to continue their journeys.

This operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led surveillance and rapid-response operations in enhancing security in Nigeria's North-East.
