Ex-AIG Abutu Yaro Defends Promotion Process in Nigerian Police Force

Former Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Abutu Yaro has responded to public criticism regarding the promotion of Hundeyin within the Nigerian Police Force. Yaro emphasized that the promotion of Hundeyin was carried out following due process and in strict adherence to the established service rules and regulations governing police promotions.

He clarified that the promotion was valid and executed within the exclusive constitutional authority of the Police Service Commission (PSC). Yaro outlined the eligibility requirements for the promotion, including a minimum rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), a university degree, at least 10 years of meritorious service, and professional qualifications in public relations.

He also explained that promotions within the police force are based on criteria such as a clean service record and completion of required training courses. Yaro dismissed claims of favoritism and emphasized that the promotion process was transparent and compliant with the established guidelines of the PSC.
