HURIWA Urges Tinubu on Lagos-Calabar Road Demolition Issue

The HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to clarify the extent of authority granted for demolitions related to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal road project. Comrade Emmanuel Nnadozi Onwubiko, the National Coordinator of HURIWA, expressed concerns during a press conference in Abuja regarding the prolonged demolition tussle involving Winhom Global Services Limited, a diaspora investor.

He highlighted the potential injustice faced by the affected parties and warned that the unresolved situation could undermine Nigeria's credibility as a law-friendly nation for investors. Onwubiko pointed out that despite two years of monitoring and independent reviews, there has been no resolution regarding compensation payments to Winhom Global Services Limited.

He noted that multiple submissions and engagements with relevant authorities have not yielded any conclusive outcomes, which raises concerns about public trust in the government's adherence to the rule of law.
