ADC Accuses Presidency of Hypocrisy on Sovereignty

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Nigerian Presidency of hypocrisy regarding its comments on Nigeria's sovereignty. This accusation arose after the Presidency criticized presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar for his foreign engagement.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC's National Publicity Secretary, stated that the Presidency's remarks about Nigeria being a sovereign nation contradicted its earlier celebration of a letter from United States President Donald Trump to President Bola Tinubu. Abdullahi argued that the Presidency framed Trump's letter as a vote of confidence in Tinubu's leadership while simultaneously condemning references to foreign leaders when they pertained to the opposition.

He emphasized the inconsistency, stating that the same administration that relied on a foreign leader's communication to validate its performance was now lecturing others about Nigeria's dignity and independence. Abdullahi's comments reflect a broader critique of the current administration's stance on foreign relations and national sovereignty.
