Al-Mustapha Claims to Have CCTV Footage of Abacha's Death

Maj. Hamza Al-Mustapha (retd.), the former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State Gen.

Sani Abacha, has asserted that he holds CCTV footage of the events surrounding Abacha's death on June 8, 1998. Al-Mustapha made these claims while speaking to journalists at the 3rd General Hassan Usman Katsina Memorial Conference held at Arewa House in Kaduna.

He specifically challenged the narrative presented by Dennis Amachree, a former operative of the Department of State Services, who described in his memoir that Abacha died from a cardiac arrest during sexual intercourse. Al-Mustapha dismissed Amachree's account as “lies,” stating, “The boy was asked by others to write those lies.

I have all the CCTV footage of what happened in my custody, so what he said is not true.” This statement adds a new dimension to the long-standing discussions surrounding the circumstances of Abacha's death.
