Nurse Recalls Delivering Babies in Captivity After Attack

Amirah Salihu, a nurse and daughter of Umar Salihu, the chief of Woro community, was a victim of the February 3 terrorist attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State. In an interview aired by Channels Television’s Politics Today, she described the harsh conditions endured during nearly six months in captivity.

Salihu recounted that captives were poorly fed, often sleeping in the open near a river despite heavy rainfall. She stated that the food provided was inadequate, consisting mainly of guinea corn with salt and Maggi, and at times, they received kuka, a local food, which was eventually stopped.

Salihu helped deliver 10 pregnant women using her bare hands after the abductors inquired if any nurse was among the captives. Although the terrorists wanted her to stay with them due to her nursing skills, she refused.

She also shared that her two brothers were killed during the attack, which was motivated by her father's resistance against the terrorists.
