Delta Man Stages Kidnap to Extort N25 Million from Family

Michael Jame, a resident of Delta State, confessed to staging his own kidnapping to extort N25 million from his family. In a video shared by Bright Edaf, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Jame explained that he orchestrated the scheme because his siblings had already spent money on his behalf.

On July 1, he abandoned a wheelbarrow in a bush and pretended to be kidnapped, demanding a ransom of N25 million. He initially contacted his mother, claiming he was being beaten by his captors and later received N700,000 from her.

After police and local vigilantes were alerted, Jame eventually admitted to the hoax. Bright Edaf noted that this is not the first instance of individuals taking advantage of the rampant kidnapping incidents in Nigeria by staging their own kidnappings for financial gain.
