Transporter Arrested for Murder of Retired Civil Servant

Saburi Lateef, a 49-year-old transporter, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly strangling and inflicting multiple machete cuts on retired civil servant Mrs Adedotun Oluwaseun during a dispute over N3.45 million. The incident occurred nearly 10 months before his arrest at her residence in Bode Olude community, Abeokuta.
Lateef, known as Alhaji Oki Osan, had initially visited the deceased's family to mourn her death. Investigations, directed by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu and state Commissioner of Police Olubode Ojajuni, linked him to the murder.
The police suspect the motive was related to the belief that the deceased had recently received her retirement benefits, which Lateef allegedly intended to steal. He gained access to her apartment through a window and attacked her when she returned unexpectedly.
Lateef claimed their relationship had been close for about 10 years and that the dispute arose over a loan he sought from her after selling his broken-down truck.
