FG Urges Oyo Assembly to Avoid Politics in Power Issues

The Federal Government, represented by Bolaji Tunji, a special adviser to the Minister of Power, Stella Oduem, has expressed concerns regarding the politicization of technical challenges affecting the Ibarapa Power Project. The government rejected allegations of incompetence against Minister Adebayo Adelabu, emphasizing that the current administration is addressing transmission challenges that have led to funding shortfalls and unresolved compensation issues.

Tunji urged the Oyo State House of Assembly to prioritize constructive engagement with federal and state authorities to improve electricity supply in Oyo State. He questioned why the Assembly has not held the state government accountable for the independent power projects undertaken by Elektron Energy, despite significant public investment.

The statement highlighted that the Assembly's actions appear politically motivated, aimed at discrediting the Minister rather than addressing genuine service delivery concerns. The Minister disclosed that contractors are currently assessing sites affected by property issues to enable compensation payments and facilitate the full-scale implementation of the project.
