IBB Golf Club to Reopen in December After 21-Month Closure

The IBB International Golf and Country Club in Maitama, Abuja, is scheduled to reopen in December 2025 after being closed for 21 months due to a leadership crisis among its members. Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike announced this following an inspection of infrastructure projects, stating that the rehabilitation was ordered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to restore the facility.

Wike confirmed that the contract for the rehabilitation was awarded to Julius Berger Plc, the original constructor of the golf course, and emphasized that the reopening would provide a recreational space for Abuja residents and diplomats. The club was shut down in March 2025 amid disputes that led to the establishment of a caretaker structure.

Wike appointed Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem as Chairman of the Board of Trustees on April 5, 2025, replacing Gen. IBM Haruna. Despite legal challenges to this appointment, Wike formed a 10-member Interim Management Committee to oversee the club's administration.

The contractor aims to complete the project by November, with a government target for reopening in December.
