Tinubu Orders Audit of IPPIS Amid Corruption Concerns

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed a comprehensive forensic audit of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and the Federal Government’s broader personnel and payroll systems. This directive follows a Federal Executive Council resolution on 19 August, prompted by findings from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) regarding suspected ghost workers and weaknesses in public-sector controls.

ICPC Chairman Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu reported that 908 suspected ghost workers were identified on IPPIS, with ₦941.99 million traced to accounts linked to alleged payroll fraud. The investigation raises critical questions about the systemic failures that allowed fictitious identities to infiltrate government payroll systems.

The focus shifts from merely identifying offenders to addressing the institutional weaknesses that enable such corruption. This response marks a significant step in Nigeria's ongoing battle against corruption, emphasizing the need for systemic reform rather than isolated actions against individual offenders.
