IG Orders Police Reinforcement to Plateau After Kawel Community Attacks

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered a significant security reinforcement to Plateau State in response to recent attacks in Kawel Community, located in the Musher District of Bokko Local Government Area. An Assistant Inspector General of Police, Dankombo Morri, who is stationed at Zone 4 headquarters in Makurdi, has been deployed to the state to assess conditions on the ground and coordinate the response.

The violence in Kawel has resulted in substantial loss of life, with reports indicating at least 20 deaths, though one source mentions a figure of 22 victims. The deceased include civilians, farmers, healthcare workers, and security personnel.

Beyond the initial Kawel attack, fresh violence has continued, with two herders killed in a separate ambush in the state. The police response includes the deployment of additional personnel and operational assets to affected communities.

The reinforcement comprises mobile police force units and tactical teams tasked with strengthening security presence in the region. During his visit to Bokko on Tuesday, the deployed Assistant Inspector General met with members of the Plateau State Police Command's management team to develop strategic measures aimed at restoring peace and preventing further attacks.

The deployment represents an immediate action by the police hierarchy to address the deteriorating security situation in the area. According to the accounts, the reinforcement was approved to implement strategies on the ground and provide a visible police presence to deter further violence.
