Customs Seizes N3.23bn in Smuggled Goods in Ikeja

The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Ikeja, announced the interception of 220 consignments of prohibited and smuggled goods valued at N3.23 billion in duty-paid value over an eight-week period. Chief Superintendent of Customs, Hussaini Abdullahi, stated that the operation, which recovered N728.9 million, was a decisive move to defend Nigeria’s economic frontiers.

The seizures included 4,956 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 12 foreign-used vehicles, 2,683 parcels of synthetic cannabis, and various other prohibited items. Customs Area Controller Gambo Aliyu described the revenue recovery as encouraging and reaffirmed the unit’s commitment to identifying and recovering lost revenue due to customs fraud.

He urged compliance with customs laws from importers and exporters, emphasizing that the interception of these goods would support domestic industries and national food security while combating smuggling and revenue evasion.
