Navy and Customs Seize 518 Bags of Smuggled Rice

On July 31, 2026, a joint operation involving the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft and the Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) led to the seizure of 518 bags of smuggled parboiled rice concealed in four boats along the Badagry waterways. The operation was executed following actionable intelligence regarding suspected smugglers' movements and was supported by the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service (NNSBS).

Commodore Awiuyor Adams-Aliu, commander of NNS Beecroft, stated that the successful interception highlighted the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration in combating smuggling and maritime crimes. Patrick Ntadi, Comptroller of the Western Marine Command, confirmed that the operation resulted in the apprehension of suspects with minimal resistance.

The operation was facilitated by sustained surveillance from the Western Regional Control Centre (WRCC) and Falcon eye technology, emphasizing the Navy's commitment to enhancing maritime security under the directives of Vice Admiral Idi Abbas and Rear Admiral Abubakar Abdullahi Mustapha.
